DOMINA is an academic research project led by Dr. Lucie Biehler-Gomez, Assistant Professor at LABANOF, University of Milan, Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health. Initially funded by L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science, it is now supported by the Fondo Italiano per la Scienza of the Ministry of University and Research.
DOMINA explores 2,000 years of women’s history in Milan though bioarchaeology, science and history. By analyzing skeletal remains, the project uncovers health, diet, violence, and daily life, revealing overlooked histories and transforming our understanding of past lived experiences to inform the present and build a more equitable future.
